Welcome to Gaiwa!

こんにちは!Welcome to the Gaiwa Homepage; the base of all our operations.

If you are new to our site, then you must be a little confused―so let me explain! Gaiwa is an online Japanese learner's community, and you've just stumbled across our Homepage. Cool, huh? We also have a forum where our lovely members practice speaking Japanese, trade tips, and talk about Pokemon. It's a great place to make new friends, so you should definitely sign up if you're interested in learning Japanese. If you're not... well, gosh, this is awkward. I'm not prepared for this. I honestly don't know why you're still here reading this.

Here on our Homepage, the incredibly talented staff―and I―are planning on writing articles on Japan and Japanese related things. We're planning on sharing our personal experiences and adventures in Japan, and our favorite study tips and resources! We will also shed some light on the current trends and news from Japan, as well as some interesting Japan related facts that you may not have heard of before!
For those who discovered Gaiwa only recently, you may not have known about our original forum site. You see, we didn't always have such a fantastic Homepage like this one.

Back in January, 2013, a forum was created to become a fun, and friendly place to practice Japanese among other Japanese learners. However, after running this website for almost 9 months, we realized that the site had the potential for something so much greater! We spent a month working non-stop on a new, fully functional website to support our ideas and ambitions to become a powerful resource for Japanese learners all over the world! Rest assured; we are still that fun, friendly online community... but we have a pretty site now.

Now, here's the point in reading this article. Why you should join Gaiwa.

Okay, let's get serious. It can be extremely difficult to learn a new language on your own. Especially when you don't have a teacher to guide you, or classmates to practice with. And more often then not―those who are learning a new language, on their own, spend more money than they really have to. Japanese is such a popular language, and there are resources all over the internet that can be available to you for free (Gaiwa included). There is no reason for you to spend more than $50 in order to learn Japanese.

Half the fun in learning a new language is making friends, and learning about the rich culture that is embedded in your language of choice. This is something that those who learn alone often forget. Those who learn alone often develop bad habits that can take years to fully correct! That is why these forums are dedicated to providing assistance, correction, and a massive amount of free online resources for you to learn Japanese the right way. No one should learn Japanese alone, but sometimes classrooms don't spend enough time with every student. If you are the type who has an endless supply of questions―this is the place for you.

Why do you want to learn Japanese? Do you plan on living in Japan?
What do you plan to do with you language skills?

Our community is comprised of experienced Japanese speakers who have been to Japan, and of some who have even begun living and working in Japan! We have the answers to your questions, and enough experience to guide you through the process of getting to Japan. We have enough knowledge to help you decide on hotels and locations for your next trip to Tokyo. We have enough knowledge to recommend Japanese companies for you to contact, and for you to avoid. We have enough knowledge to warn you about mandatory cultural behaviors to adopt when in Japan. We are aware that the ultimate goal of a Japanese linguist is to eventually live and work in Japan, and our site has many experienced members who are here to help and educate! If that's your dream; we'll help you get to Japan.

Words of praise from the members of our "Educational Family."
