初めまして, I'm Rin, an American with a passion for things Japanese.
Online you might know me as Bokusenou, one of my online
aliases, or Rin, a Japanese name I heard when I was just beginning to
learn Japanese and liked, which stuck soon after and became my nickname.
I'm been learning Japanese on and off for about 15 years
now, and I've passed level 1 (N1) of the Japanese Language
Proficiency Test.
I began learning Japanese on my own around the time I
started liking Japanese literature & anime, and nowadays I can read
and watch them without the use of English tools. As I went on, the
culture and the country of Japan also attracted my interest, as well as
the characters known as kanji.
I took three semesters of college Japanese, as well as a
few months studying in a language school in Japan, but ultimately
realized that self-study was more effective for me.
During my time in Japan I witnessed the beauty of
cherry blossom viewing season, the temples of Nara and Kyoto, as well as the kindness and generosity of
the Japanese people. After I returned, I continued to maintain a
Japanese immersion environment through books, media, and switching all
the devices I could to Japanese.
I am a strong believer in the power of self-study, and
support the idea that, contrary to the public image of the language as
hard, vague, and complicated, anyone can learn Japanese. Even if they
live faraway from Japan, in a place were no one is Japanese.
In this internet age, there are a million ways to surround yourself with Japanese. The question is: what are you waiting for?
